Our annual themes are water, earth and sky, and when possible, our classes use the annual theme for the year to guide their work. We often say that we prefer to go deep as opposed to broad, delving into topics and covering them from many angles over several weeks.
Our classes engage in field work on a regular basis. Field work can include walks around the neighborhood to inspire a poetry project or look for evidence of mathematical principles in the built or natural environment, performing science experiments, visiting the public library for stories or research, or visiting arts and cultural events. We often are exploring natural areas in our neighborhood and region and we have partnerships with several local agencies to help support our students’ field work.
We also offer Before and After School Enrichment programs. The ASE program includes clubs that change quarterly. Recent club topics have included: improvisation, filmmaking, sports, and chess.
