Enrollment

Enrollment Policy

Applications for the 2009-2010 school year are still being accepted. Space is still available in some classes. If there is space available, you will be notified of an opportunity to enroll after we receive your application. If there is not space available, your student will be placed on the waiting list, and you will be notified if/when a space becomes available.

You may apply for the 2010-2011 school year beginning in mid-November. The deadline for 2010-2011 applications is March 31, 2010. If the number of application for any particular grade exceeds the number of available spots in the class, then a lottery will be employed. Families will be notified in advance of the time and date of the lottery and are welcome, but not required to attend. The lottery will also be used to form the order of the waiting list if needed. Students residing within the boundaries of Portland Public School district and siblings of exisitng students will be given priority over students residing outside PPS. Applications received after March 31 will be put into classes (if space is still available) or onto the waiting list in the order received, giving preference to PPS residents and siblings of current students.

Southwest Charter School will not consider ethnicity, national origin, race, religion, disability, gender, income level, proficiency in the English language or athletic ability as factors in admission. (ORS 338.125 (3)) In accordance with state statute (ORS 338.125), age and grade will be the only admission criteria used by the Southwest Charter School.
