The contributions of the community are critical to ensuring that our kids can participate in all the SWCS has to offer; it allows us to keep the class sizes small, to continue to enhance our programs, and to address larger needs such as the outside playspace. The allocation we get from the State School Fund is not enough to provide these private-school-like benefits.
The monthly / annual give is one of the two cornerstones of our community fundraising plan; the other is the auction in March. There are also several community events, typically around one per month, some of which have fundraising components. These events might have specific fundraising targets in mind, though the monthly/annual give is designed to broadly address the top priorities of the school and community.
Our goal is for all SWCS families to participate in these campaigns at an amount they feel able. The suggested monthly donation is $50 per family, or $500 annually. All contributions at any level are most welcome.

e gifts are vital because SWCS is a public school that charges no tuition but receives limited public funding for its program.
The Annual Fund helps SWCS bridge the gap between the funds received from the
Oregon Department of Education and the actual cost of educating students. The school
depends on the Annual Fund for current-year operating expenses and provides the things
we take for granted: small classes, passionate teachers and staff, and real world learning.
Participation in the Annual Fund is critical. SWCS asks board members, parents, grandparents, teachers and staff, community members as well as local businesses to contribute to the campaign.
We have set a fundraising goal for the 2010 - 2011 school year of $130,000 which is
equal to an average donation of $1,000 per student.
Gifts are used to support the general operating budget, which provides for the day-to-day operations of the school. This years’ funding priorities include:
1) Teacher and staff professional development and pay
2) Playground
How much should I give?
It is our hope that SWCS will be your family’s top priority in charitable giving. We encourage everyone to participate in a way that will be meaningful for them. If you support SWCS and want the school to thrive, the best way for you to help make that happen is to give to the Annual Fund.
Every donation received is gratefully accepted regardless of the amount.
Can I make monthly payments?
A monthly payment option is available that allows you to pay your gift over any number of months you choose. This is a great way to maximize your gift — for some, one payment of $1,000 may be out of the question, while 10 monthly payments of $100 may be quite possible.
